Home The Gallery The Studio Ordering

What was once a farm machine shop is now a functional painting studio. This 200 year old landmark stone building with studio upstairs and gallery down, was recently renovated to serve the painting, exhibiting and teaching needs of owner Jim Adair. After a successful advertising career in New York City the Adair family moved to the Hudson Valley near New Paltz, NY, to establish the Adair Winery. Which, once established, was sold, to fullfill a life long ambition to paint. Not a bad place to do so, given the painting tradition established in the area by artists like Thomas Cole, Asher Durand and many other famous painters.

The Red Pump Studio is a fun place to visit. And there are paintings and prints for sale along with custom gallery framing. Coupled with a tour of the winery, just down the road, it makes a delightful way to spend an afternoon in the Hudson Valley.

Workshop under way behind the Studio during a nice day. In bad weather we go inside and work from photographs or still life set-ups. Classes are usually three hours long, one day a week. For five to ten weeks. Spring, summer and fall. All levels of experience.
